Wayne Rooney

In September 2005, Rooney was sent off in a Champions League clash with Villarreal of Spain (which ended in a goalless draw) for sarcastically clapping the referee who had booked him for an unintentional foul on an opponent.[72] His first trophy with United came in the 2006 League Cup,[73] and he was also named man of the match after scoring twice in United's 4–0 win over Wigan Athletic in the final.[74] In the Premier League, however, an erratic start to the season left title glory looking unlikely for United and their title hopes were ended in late April when they lost 3–0 away to champions Chelsea and had to settle for second place.[75] Rooney sustained a broken metatarsal in that game after a tackle made by Paulo Ferreira.[76] Rooney's goalscoring further improved in the 2005–06 season, as he managed 16 goals in 36 Premier League games.[77]
Rooney was sent off in an Amsterdam Tournament match against Porto on 4 August 2006 after hitting Porto defender Pepe with an elbow.[78] He was punished with a three-match ban by the FA, following their receipt of a 23-page report from referee Ruud Bossen that explained his decision.[79] Rooney wrote a letter of protest to the FA, citing the lack of punishment handed down to other players who were sent off in friendlies. He also threatened to withdraw the FA's permission to use his image rights if they did not revoke the ban, but the FA had no power to make such a decision.[80]
During the first half of the 2006–07 season, Rooney ended a ten-game scoreless streak with a hat-trick against Bolton Wanderers,[81] and he signed a two-year contract extension the next month that tied him to United until 2012. By the end of April, a combination of two goals in an 8–3 aggregate quarter-final win over Roma and two more in a 3–2 semi-final first leg victory over Milan.[82] By the end of that season, he had scored 14 league goals.[83] Rooney collected his first Premier League title winner's medal at the end of the 2006–07 season.[84]

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Mark Rooney (born 24 October 1985) is an English footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League club Manchester United and the England national team.
Rooney made his senior international debut in 2003 becoming the youngest player to represent England, until he got beaten by Theo Walcott. He is England's youngest ever goalscorer.[4] He played at UEFA Euro 2004 and scored four goals, briefly becoming the competition's youngest goalscorer. Rooney featured at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and is widely regarded as his country's best player.[5][6][7][8][9][10] He has won the England Player of the Year award twice, in 2008 and 2009. As of February 2013, he has won 79 international caps and scored 33 goals, making him England's fifth highest goalscorer in history.[11] Along with David Beckham, Rooney is the most red carded player for England, having been sent off twice.[12]
Aged nine, Rooney joined the youth team of Everton, for whom he made his professional debut in 2002. He spent two seasons at the Merseyside club, before moving to Manchester United for £25.6 million in the 2004 summer transfer window. The same year, Rooney acquired the nickname "Wazza".[13] Since then, with Rooney in the team, United have won the Premier League four times, the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League and two League Cups. He also holds two runner-up medals from the Champions League and has twice finished second in the Premier League. In April 2012, Rooney scored his 180th goal, making him United's fourth-highest goal-scorer of all time.[14]
In 2009–10, Rooney was awarded the PFA Players' Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year. He has won the Premier League Player of the Month award five times, a record he shares with Steven Gerrard. He came fifth in the vote for the 2011 FIFA Ballon d'Or and was named in the FIFPro World 11 for 2011. Rooney has won the 'Goal of the Season' award by the BBC's Match of the Day poll on three occasions, with his bicycle kick against rivals Manchester City winning the 'Premier League Goal of the 20 Seasons' award.[15] Rooney is the third highest-paid footballer in the world after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with an annual income of €20.7m (£18m) including sponsorship deals

Zlatan Ibrahimović

On 28 August 2010, Milan announced on their official website that they had acquired the services of Ibrahimović for the 2010–11 season. He was loaned out to Milan for the 2010–11 season, with Milan having the option to purchase him outright from Barcelona for €24 million at the end of the season.[44][45] He made his team debut in a 2–0 loss to Cesena on 11 September, in which he missed a penalty late in the match,[46] and scored his first goals for the club when Milan defeated Auxerre in their first Champions League match of the season on 15 September. On 14 November, Ibrahimović scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory against his former club Internazionale in the Milan Derby. On 20 November, he scored his seventh goal against Fiorentina in the 45th minute with an over-the-head bicycle kick, passing Alexandre Pato as the team's top goal scorer for the season. On 4 December 2010, in a game against Brescia, he assisted Kevin Prince-Boateng to give Milan an early lead and then scored the third goal by a powerful shot near the edge of the penalty box to give Milan a 3–0 win. On 12 December 2010, history repeated himself in the game against Bologna after he assisted Boateng to give Milan an early lead once again and scoring later that match to make it 3–0, leading him to 13 goals with 8 assists in 21 matches in all competitions, after which he has been compared to Milan legend Marco van Basten by both the media and van Basten himself.[47]
Ibrahimović received a three-match ban, after getting a red card in a 1–1 home draw against Bari in March 2011 for punching Bari defender Marco Rossi in the stomach.[48] An additional three-match ban was given to Ibrahimović in February 2012, in a 1–2 home defeat against Fiorentina, for supposedly swearing at an assistant referee. Ibrahimović stated in his defense that he was talking to himself in frustration.[49] He won his first Scudetto with Milan after a stalemate against Roma. He is therefore currently on a streak of eight straight league wins in three different countries and with five different clubs, including the later stripped wins with Juventus. All agreements between Milan and Barcelona were confirmed on 18 June 2011.[50]
In the first official match of the 2011–12 season, Ibrahimović opened it in the best possible way scoring the first goal of a Milan comeback to beat city rivals Internazionale in the Italian Super Cup. He also scored Milan's first goal of their 2011–12 Serie A season in a 2–2 draw against Lazio. He scored his third goal in the first three games in Milan's Champions League game against Czech club Viktoria Plzeň from the penalty spot and assisted the second goal. Ibrahimović justified his tag of the carrier of Milan by scoring in many games, yet still providing many assists. He scored in the next UEFA Champions League game against BATE Borisov, a goal in Milan's 4–1 win over Parma and two more in their 2–3 win over Roma, ending a successful month of October. November was equally impressive for the Swede, scoring in consecutive games against BATE, in the Champions League, and Catania, in the league. In the highly anticipated encounter between Milan and Barcelona, Ibrahimović scored against his old club to equalise the game at 1–1 but eventually Barça ran away 3–2 winner at the San Siro. He ended November with a brace against Chievo, his first goal took his tally of goals in Serie A to 100 goals, and the second from the penalty spot. Ibrahimović continued his impressive form in December, and scored a goal in each of five Serie A games. 2012 started on high note for Ibrahimović, as he scored against Atalanta converting a penalty kick. He was the top goalscorer of Serie A, with 14 goals in 16 appearance, after the brace against Novara, of which second goal, came after cheeky backheel. On 5 January 2012 in a match against Napoli on continuation of Serie A, Ibra awarded a red card for slapping Salvatore Aronica in an off-the-ball incident and will rule out of Milan's next three games.[51] On 15 February, in the 2011–12 Champions League season, Ibrahimović set up all two Robinho's goals and also scored by a spot kick, thus helping Milan win 4–0 over Arsenal.[52] He continued his goalscoring run in March 2012, with a hat-trick in a 4–0 away win against Palermo at the Stadio Renzo Barbera. The first two goals were assisted by Robinho and the third by Emanuelson. In the next three games, he scored four goals, two against Roma, which took his tally to 22 goals in 23 games. With two goals against Siena, Ibrahimović surpassed his previous domestic goal record of 25 goals. He finished the season with 28 goals in 32 matches.

Zlatan Ibrahimović

Ibra PSG.jpg
Zlatan Ibrahimović (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈslaːtan ɪbraˈhiːmɔvɪtʂ], Bosnian pronunciation: [ˈzlatan ibraˈxiːmɔʋitɕ]; born 3 October 1981) is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and the Swedish national team for which he is captain. Ibrahimović started his career at Malmö FF in the late 1990s under Roland Andersson. He was signed by Ajax, and made a name for himself under Ronald Koeman. He later signed with Juventus for €16 million. Ibrahimović gained fame in Serie A, benefiting from his strike partnership with David Trezeguet.
In 2006, he signed with league rival Internazionale, where he won individual awards such as the Italian Oscar del Calcio and the Swedish Guldbollen, and was named in the 2007 and 2009 UEFA Team of the Year, in addition to finishing as the league's highest scorer in 2008–09 while winning three straight Scudetti. In the summer of 2009, he transferred to Barcelona for €69 million, the second highest transfer fee in football history. His time at Barcelona was short lived, however, moving back to Serie A football with Milan the following season, in a deal which made him one of the highest paid footballers in the world[2] and cost the Italian club €24 million.
In 2012, he was ranked 5th in The Guardian's 100 Best Footballers in the world.

neymar

Neymar da Silva Santos JúniNeymar celebrating (cropped).jpgor (Portuguese pronunciation: [nejˈmaɾ dɐ ˈsiɫvɐ sɐ̃tus ˈʒunioɾ]; born 5 February 1992), commonly known mononymously as Neymar, is a Brazilian footballer who plays in the Brasileirão Série A for Santos and the Brazilian national team, mainly as a forward. In 2012, SportsPro magazine rated Neymar as the most marketable athlete in the world.[2] Neymar was also rated #13 in The Guardian's 'Football 100' for 2012.[3]
At the age of 19, Neymar won the 2011 South American Footballer of the Year award, by a record margin, after coming third in 2010.[4] In 2011 Neymar received nominations for the FIFA Ballon d'Or, where he came 10th, and the FIFA Puskás Award, which he won.[5] He is known for his acceleration, speed, dribbling and finishing. His playing style has earned him critical acclaim, with fans, media and former players drawing comparisons to Argentine forward Lionel Messi and former Brazil player Pelé, who has called Neymar "an excellent player".[6]
Neymar joined Santos in 2003 and, after rising through the ranks, was promoted to their first team squad. He made his debut for Santos in 2009, and was voted the Best Young Player of the 2009 Campeonato Paulista. Further honours followed, with Neymar being voted best player as Santos won the 2010 Campeonato Paulista, and also being top scorer in the 2010 Copa do Brasil with 11 goals. He finished the 2010 season with 42 goals in 60 games as his club achieved the Double. Neymar was again voted best player of the year in 2011 as his side retained the state title and Santos also winning the 2011 Copa Libertadores in which Neymar scored 6 goals in 13 appearances. He also played a key role in securing a Continental Double for his team, Santos' first since 1963. He received the Bronze Ball in the 2011 FIFA Club World Cup, with Santos making it to the final, where they were defeated by FC Barcelona, 4–0.[7][8]
Neymar is a Brazilian international, having represented Brazil at Under-17, Under-20 and senior levels. On 10 August 2010, at the age of 18, he made his debut for the Seleção in a friendly match against the United States; he scored from a header in the 28th minute, contributing to Brazil's 2–0 win. He was the top scorer of the 2011 South American Youth Championship with nine goals, including two in the final, in the 6-0 win against Uruguay, helping Brazil to win their 11th title in this competition
Nani.JPG
Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha (born 17 November 1986), commonly known as Nani (Portuguese pronunciation: [nɐˈni]), is a Portuguese footballer currently playing as a winger for English club Manchester United and the Portugal national team. Although predominantly right-footed, he has been utilised on the left-wing on many occasions.
Nani was born in Cape Verde and emigrated to Europe with his family at an early age. He was raised in Portugal and began his football career playing for local side Real Massamá. At the age of 16, he began training with Sporting Clube de Portugal and S.L. Benfica on alternate days, eventually joining Sporting's youth squad after they offered him pre-season training. In 2005, he made his professional debut with the club and won the Portuguese Cup during his second season with them. Nani was named the SJPF Young Player of the Month for May 2007 and his performances with Sporting culminated into a move to English club side Manchester United in July 2007 for a fee of €25 million.[5] Nani won the Community Shield on his competitive debut at the club and has since added a number of trophies which included the Premier League and Champions League during his debut season at the club. He has established himself as first-choice winger at Manchester United and has won a further Premier League title, the Football League Cup, one FIFA Club World Cup, and three Community Shield titles. Individually, Nani has been included into the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year on one occasion and was a nominee for the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2011.
Nani is also a Portugal international. Prior to playing at senior level, he played at under-21 level. He made his senior international debut in September 2006 in a friendly match against Denmark and scored his first international goal during the 4–2 defeat in Copenhagen. Nani has represented his country at two major tournaments, the 2008 and 2012 European Championships. Since his debut, he has made 62 appearances and scored 13 goals for Portugal.

van persie

Manchester United captain Nemanja Robin van Persie ManUtd (cropped).jpgVidic was an absolute giant against Reading in the FA Cup last night. This was truly a captain's performance, but he isn't getting any younger and succession is a real consideration.
One of the reasons is that Sir Alex does is not yet comfortable in playing his captain in every game.
Fortunately, in Patrice Evra, he has a vice-captain who hardly misses a game. Since the beginning of 2007/8, he has started 272 games out of a possible 331, more than any other player.
And for all those who sometimes question Evra's contribution, when he hasn't played this season, United have conceded 14 percent more goals and lost 30 percent more matches.
So between the two, Sir Alex notionally has a "dream team." "Pat" is undoubtedly a leader and his captaincy has been needed far more in the last couple of years due to Vidic's injuries.
Indeed, the possible doubts about the captain's full recovery are what now prompts a reasonable consideration about who would succeed him.
Both captain and vice captain are the wrong side of 30. Indeed, both are 32 this year and if there are questions about how much longer Ferdinand can play on, the same will soon apply to his colleagues.
Whether it was because of rebuilding after his injury; whether he has lost a yard of pace; or it is merely the sands of time, there were signs last night that Vidic is not quite what he was.
It was unusual to see him so many times feint and turn away from an attacker to buy time to make a pass, rather than bursting past him.
You don't become a bad defender overnight and both the captain and his best partner, Ferdinand, are playing with their heads more, literally and metaphorically.
There was an instant last night where Vidic was under pressure and, rather than risk losing the ball, simply ran the ball out of play. He does this as well as any central defender. He knows when to do the simple thing. This is something Smalling can learn from, for example.
But this was, nevertheless, a giant of a performance. Despite a shuddering clash of heads with Noel Hunt in the first half, Vidic headed clear time and again, fearlessly challenging where others would have shied away.
This is one of the two or three critical elements in the make-up of a great captain, and it is no surprise that they are often central defenders or central midfielders.
Before we consider the candidates to succeed Nemanja Vidic, let's look at some of the recent United captains and what they brought to the job.

I dunno how rooney would react if RVP gets the nod ahead of him..ya he sure respects him but he'll be disappointed ...
He did say the "Transfer Request" was his "Biggest Mistake" but he shouldn't start thinking otherwise..We definitely don't want another Rooney Transfer saga..
Difficult to imagine united without Rooney..

The next Manchester United captain is a tough one i think a lot of United fans would think next will be Rooney i also think so but we never know.
In the future it's definitely going to be Phil Jones he has captain material written all over.

I would have thought so until RVP arrived. Rooney respects him. Also I believe Fergie would appoint Evans before Jones.

Jones will need to stay healthy to be captain.

Spot on. Could not agree more.
But, I think Rooney may just go down as the best supporting act in United's history. Always feel he has so much more to offer. Having said that he has accepted his role in the Ronaldo era and now hopefully the van Persie era with grace (dare I say). Hats off to him!

I can't disagree with that at all.

Agree with everything Terry. But my heart is set on Rooney. One, he is going to offer more longevity than Van Persie. There are a lot of reasons like he has been with United ever since he was 18, he would soon be the highest scorer for United, plays every game like his life is on the line, his contract tussle not being overlooked but he has apologized for that and continues to do so whenever possible and looks like he is going to be here a good time. Another major point is that being an Evertonian, he hates Liverpool.
RVP is a leader on and off the pitch and everybody is in awe of him now and you wouldnt put it past Sir Alex to make him the captain but there is still the small taint of him having captained a rival before. Rooney wins it for me but I am good either way. Both are natural leaders and their achievements are such that no one would question back. Cheers for the article!

This is why he was Captain last year. He is a very good leader. Look what he did putting the team on his back last year. Just think having world class players around him for more then a year or two.

I know it's unlikely but I wouldn't put it past Fergie to give it to De Gea. Obviously not this year but by the time Vidic is retired from the role who is to say how good he will be? It's not beyond the realms of possibility that he would be the best keeper in the world (most likely bar Neuer) and the captaincy would serve to just make him more vocal. Just my 2 cents anyway.
Default-user-icon-comment Vasko Yorgov posted about 7 hours ago Contributor I
Bold prediction and it could serve to keep him at United and prevent him from leaving for a Spaish team. However I think he first has to master the English language.
Dsc_0107_crop_45x45 Ankush Jangid posted about 4 hours ago Contributor I
De Gea should be the captain at an ageof 26-27 as he will be mature by that time, Right now, he is just a kid in front of Rooney, RVP, Carrick and many more.
Default-user-icon-comment dave Matt posted about 13 hours ago Contributor I
Next : Rooney(maybe when he moves in midfield
After that : Evans or Jones
It would be weird if RVP became captain since he was a gooner but then Cantona captained the team inspite of the leeds- Utd rivalry

What about some love for Rooney .. he can play in any part of the field and has a great reputation on and off the field. I strongly believe the next captain would be the one to lead the team post SAF era which should in reality be a quiet stressful year or two, and someone who has been with ManUtd for as long as Rooney would be an asset. My Two Cents

Ya, I too think that after SAF retires, it is going to be take a year or two to get back into winning form (many teams like shitty may say.... you lost, but that's a different story altogether), and Rooney should be the captain according to me.

Cristiano is Sir Alex's greatest signing ever. Bar none.
Default-user-icon-comment Vasko Yorgov posted about 7 hours ago Contributor I
You could make a very good case for both Cantona and Schmeichel. King Eric inspired United into their dominance for he 90's and Schmeichel was arguably the greatest keeper United has ever seen and you could make a very good case for him being the greatest ever. Both of those players together only cost 1.5 million quid, which was a massive bargiain. Both of them also reached their peaks for United whereas Ronaldo was developed at United but is hitting is peak at Madrid.

If by future you mean he might captain some FA Cup game or some match against the bottom of the league side in then Premier League, then yes.
If by future you mean that he will at some stage become captain for a prolonged period of time, I say dream on.
