Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior (born 12 May 1988) is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team. Marcelo is said to be gifted with great technical ability, a fierce shot, and good passing. Mainly a left back, he can also operate as a left winger.
Very often compared to Roberto Carlos, Marcelo was named as Roberto Carlos heir by Roberto Carlos himself and said "Marcelo possesses a better technical ability than me," and also called Marcelo the world's best at his position.^[1]
After his breakthrough season, Marcelo was praised by footballs legends such as Paolo Maldini^[2] and Diego Maradona,^[3] who also called him the best in his position.
